A man from Jaffna, who tried to take a woman to Italy using his wife’s passport, was arrested by Immigration officials at the Katunayaka International Airport (KIA) yesterday (31) afternoon.
He arrived at KIA accompanied by his five-year-old son and a 29-year-old woman from Kankesanthurai, believed to be his wife, at 1.45 pm, to leave for Italy.
On presenting their documents at Emigration, the Officer, on suspicion, referred the three to the Border Inspection Unit.
Preliminary investigations and the technical tests conducted revealed that the child belonged to the man, while the woman with them was neither the man’s wife nor the child’s mother.
When this man came to Sri Lanka a few weeks ago, he had brought his wife’s passport with him from Italy, forged the KIA Immigration and Emigration stamp, and kept it with him.
Immigration officials further discovered that on a previous occasion, this man had taken another woman with him to Italy, using his wife’s passport.
Immigration officials handed over the three to the KIA Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
