A young man who was ordered to be sent to the Kandakadu Rehabilitation Treatment Center by the Galagedara District Court was re-arrested by Police for Contempt of Court. The suspect who was detained in the Court cell jumped out and tried to strangle a female lawyer. Lawyers and Police officers saved her.
After the incident, the lawyer was admitted to Galagedara Hospital for treatment. The suspect, a resident of Kaluwana area in Galagedara, was arrested on October 16 with 750 milligrams of cannabis by the Galagedara Police and presented before the Magistrate Harshana Ratnayake of the Galagedara District Court on October 17.
At that time, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be referred to the Kandakadu Rehabilitation and Treatment Center for rehabilitation.
When another suspect, who was detained in the Court cell, was taken out for another case, the suspect jumped out of the cell, ran to Court and tried to strangle the lawyer. Magistrate Harshana Ratnayake ordered that the suspect, who was brought before the Court again on the charge of Contempt of Court, be remanded until October 25.
The suspect said that he had seen the lawyer every day when he came to court and because of his innate desire for her, he touched her.
