Man sets himself on fire at police station, hospitalised

A 34 year old man had set himself on fire inside the Mirihana police station and  then hugged his wife who was nearby in an attempt to kill her as well.

However, the woman had escaped by running away and the man who ran after his wife had been stopped by the police.However, the man had suffered severe burn injuries and has been admitted to hospital, police said.

Police said the incident took place when the husband and wife was called to the police station to investigate a complaint lodged by the man against his wife.

He had taken a lighter out of his pocket and then had set himself on fire and then had tried to hug the woman, police said.

The police said that there were several cases pending against the suspect for possession of illegal drugs and also over an incident of throwing acid at his wife.
