Man shot dead in Ambalanthota, two arrested
A dispute over cattle theft went far and ended up where a person was shot and killed inside his house on July 18 by two suspects in the middle of the night in Koggalla North Kadawara area.
Ambalanthota Police have managed to arrest two of the suspects involved with the murder and arrested them within a few hours of the killing.
A father of two named Amarakoon Kankanamge Siripala (62) has been killed.
The Police say that the person who was killed and his son are famous cattle thieves in the area.The murder took place at the house of the victim’s daughter. Police said that this person and his son have been staying in this house for sometime.
Police said that the murdered person’s daughter, is about to face the GCE Ordinary Level Examination. It is said that she is engaged in studies till midnight.As elephants frequent this area, the garden was illuminated with lights.The granddaughter, who was studying in a room of the house, saw three people entering the garden and coming towards the house with firearms drawn. Police said that the three of them came near the partially opened window and pointed the firearm through it, and the daughter ran out of the room shouting “don’t shoot”.
At this time, the murdered person who is the grandfather of this daughter was staying in the living room. Police said that when he opened the door of the house, a shot was fired and the person who was hit by the shot died on the spot.
The daughter has been able to identify the shooters.Police said that two out of the three suspects were to be arrested based on the statements of the daughter.Police said that one more suspect is on the run and they will be able to arrest him with his firearm.
