Man shot in Maligawatta dies 18 days later
The Maligawatta Police said that the man who was receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital after being seriously injured from being shot in front of a shop near the Maligawatta Pension Department, died on September 19 night after 18 days. A 38-year-old man named Y.T.Dinesh, a resident of Dematagoda Baseline Road, has died. The deceased had started a car and motorcycle cleaning centre with his brother recently and as soon as the first motorcycle arrived for cleaning at the place, two unknown persons who came on a motorcycle opened fire and fled.
Police investigations revealed that the two brothers had been threatened by an underworld group not to open this business place. According to the investigation, it has been revealed that this shooting was carried out by the “Podi Kavi” faction as revenge for the shooting death of a 20-year-old youth in Keselwatta area on August 20.
A person was arrested in Wellampitiya area by the Colombo Crime Division who conducted investigations on this incident. He is a 28-year-old resident of Keselwatta.Maligawatta police are investigating.
