Man shot inside Lunugamvehera forest reserve dies
A 31-year-old individual has died after being shot at by the Wildlife Department officers at the Lunugamvehera forest reserve on Wednesday (15) night, the Lunugamvehera Police said.
The man had been admitted to the Lunugamvehera Hospital where he died while being treated after being seriously wounded from the gunshots. The deceased is a 31-year-old male residing in Wam Ivura, Tissamaharama. Officers from the Kataragama Karawila Wildlife Department have carried out a raid on a forest reserve which is under them when a group inside had fled during the raid.
News of the people who fled from the forest reserve had been shared with the surrounding Wildlife Department points and this shooting incident had taken place during a search operation that was carried out by the Wildlife officials in Zone 6 of the Yala Reserve to arrest those who were reported as having fled, according to Police investigations. The Wildlife Department officer who shot the person during the search operation had been arrested after he surrendered himself along with the firearm used for shooting to the Lunugamvehera Police station.
