Man stabbed to death inside Nawagamuwa police station

A man who came to lodge a complaint was stabbed to death by another man inside the Nawagamuwa Police station yesterday.

The deceased had been attacked by another man who came from outside while a police officer was recording his complaint.

The attack had taken place at the minor complaints section. He was admitted to Nawagamuwa Hospital while the knife was still in his neck, but had been pronounced dead upon admittance.

The deceased has been identified as Jayantha Kumarasiri Perera, a resident of Elawatta Road, Dunakedeniya, Karawanella. He had come to lodge a complaint regarding physical harassment to a woman he knew, a resident of Ranala in Nawagamuwa.

While he was sitting in front of a police officer in the minor complaint’s section, a person had stabbed him in the neck from behind, police said.The person who stabbed him has been arrested.

According to the police the murder had been committed over an illicit affair with a woman.
