Man wanted for several offences in Payagala arrested after public outcry

The Payagala Police on Wednesday arrested a wanted criminal who had allegedly sexually harassed women and robbed property after breaking into houses, when he was hiding in a school building in Weragala. A hand grenade was also recovered from his possession.

The suspect (40) is a fisherman and a resident of Weragala. He had previously been jailed for similar crimes and then bailed out.

Therefore, the police had arrested him after a public outcry. However, the police has received only one complaint against him.

The police arrested him when the people of the area were trying to capture him.
