According to police sources the Kalutara Fraud Investigation Unit has launched an investigation into an incident where an individual had issued a warrant with the signature of the Kalutara Additional Magistrate, intimidated a millionaire gem businessman and acquired a land at Dharga Town worth about Rs. 4.5 million fraudulently.
The businessman had purchased the land in 2021 and the businessman had been told that he had obtained
this particular land fraudulently and as a result this warrant had been issued.
Then, had got the land written in his own name with great planning. This had been revealed
during investigations.
Sources said that investigations commenced based on a complaint lodged at the Kalutara Fraud Investigation Unit by the businessman resident at Kandy Road, Thihariya, Kalagedihena.
The warrant had been issued stating that a deed that had already been sold and a fraud had been committed and it had contained the Additional Magistrate’s signature and official seal as well.
According to the same sources, arrangements are already being made to launch an investigation
through the Government Analyst regarding the warrant of arrest document which had been prepared by misleading the judiciary as well.
Although the usual procedure is for a police officer to send a warrant, who was the individual who handed over the warrant to the gem businessman? Who had given him this warrant? Has the
support of a court official or several of them been provided for this fraud? Investigations have commenced regarding these issues and the Kalutara Fraud Investigation Unit is conducting
inquiries under the direct supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kalutara Division Kapila Premadasa.
