Man who had affair with teenager dies after assault in Chunnakam
Chunnakam Police said that a 55-year-old father of two, who was having an affair with a 19-year-old girl, resident of Jaffna Chunnakam, died on August 7 afternoon after being tied to a tree and assaulted by a group including the girl’s brothers.
The deceased was a mason by profession residing at Arumugam Street in Chunnakam.
The investigation revealed the wife and children of the deceased reside in a house in Jaffna. The police said that the deceased person stayed in his house in Chunnakam and engaged in masonry.
Police said toddy was sold in a house on Sri Lanka road, Uduvil and this person used to go there to drink toddy. Police also mentioned that the 19-year-old girl is a resident of that house.
Police said the deceased has developed a relationship with the young girl while going out for drinks and on some days he even used to have his meals from that house.
Investigations have revealed the girl’s family, who came to know about the relationship between the two, have objected to it and informed them to stop it. Police said the girl’s brothers and family members, who were upset because of the continued relationship despite the warnings, beat him after tying him to a tree when he came to buy toddy. The girl was also beaten there by her family members. Police have received information that several people who had come to this house to drink toddy were also involved in the attack.
Chunnakam Police have also received information that a person is being severely assaulted after tying on to a tree. Police went there and found the person who was tied to the tree. He was rescued and admitted to Thelippalai hospital. He was already in serious condition and died shortly after being hospitalised.
Police have arrested six people from Chunnakam and Thelippalai in connection with this attack. Police said they are aged between 23 and 48.
