Man who stabbed Ministry official surrenders
The Moragahahena Police said, a person who broke into the house of a Health Ministry official (32) at Mohottigoda in Weediyagoda, had attacked her with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries and that she was hospitalised.
Police said that there was a large stream of blood in the living room of the house, as well as hair suspected to be from the woman’s head.
Moragahahena Police also said the man she was to marry, who attacked her with a sharp weapon, surrendered and was arrested.
The officer who had been living together with the suspect since 2013 had come to reside in this house about a year ago.
It has been revealed during investigations that he is a married person and was hoping to marry the officer after divorcing his wife.
Meanwhile, after the man who was going to get married came to know through a text message that the seriously injured officer was having an affair with another person and arguments between the two had broken out, during the past few days, according to the police.
The suspect had left the house saying that he was going to his estate in Baduraliya but returned to the house early yesterday morning and entered the house by breaking the front window glass while the officer was sleeping and attacked her several times with a sharp weapon, police said.
Hearing the screams of the victim, a young man from an adjacent house had come to the house and had called the 1990 ambulance who was admitted her to the Wethara Hospital. She had been transferred to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
A severed finger which had fallen on the ground due to the officer holding the hand of the suspect when he was attacking her with a sharp weapon had been put in ice by the young man and handed over to the hospital.
The police also found several sharp weapons used to cut cinnamon in a polythene bag on the floor near the window where the suspect had entered the house. Police investigations are underway to find the sharp weapon used in the attack Photographs:
