Man who stole lorry after assault arrested in Rajanganaya
Police arrested a man in connection with an incident of assaulting and imprisoning a lorry driver and stealing a lorry worth Rs. 2.5 million when he went on a hired journey to the Rajanganaya area.
Police say that the arrested person is a 40-year-old resident of Saliya Asokapura, Tract 2, Rajanganaya left bank, who was employed as a mechanic.
Police say that the complainant is a resident of Ibbagamuwa who has been working as a lorry driver for 20 years for one of his friends who lives in Divulapitiya.The driver complained that a businessman from Warakapola who was known to him made a phone call on August 25 and asked him to come to Warakapola to go on a hired trip to Rajanganaya. After that, he came to Youth Farm, Tract16 on 26 with the businessman and his friend.
Later, when he went to a house in Rajanganaya area where a niece of the businessmen who hired the lorry lived, two persons came on a motorcycle, snatched the key from his lorry and hijacked the lorry, the driver complained. The driver also said that a woman and a man beat him on the legs with a stick, forced him into a three-wheeler and took him to a house in the Giribawa area.
After that, he was taken to a lawyer’s house in the Giribawa area, forced to sign several documents, brought back to a house and locked him in a room. He said to police that he then escaped from that house on August 28.
