Man with Gold gel in rectum held at BIA
A person who tried to smuggle three capsules containing gold gel worth about 25 million rupees to India in his rectum was arrested by Customs officers last Friday (18), Customs Media Spokesman Sudattha Silva said.
The suspect is a 29-year-old three-wheel driver from Keselwatta, Colombo. The suspect was about to board a flight to Mumbai, India on Friday (18). Based on the suspicion about him, he was directed to do an x-ray examination, where it was revealed that there were 1.28 kg capsules containing gold in gel form in his rectum.
Customs officials said that the technology to transform this gel solution into gold is currently available only in India. Capsules containing this gel solution have been sent to the Gem and Jewellery office at the Katunayake Airport for further investigation. The suspect was produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court on Saturday (19).
