Man with LTTE links in 2002 shot dead in Borella

A man who was arrested by the police and had also been in remand on suspicion of having links with the LTTE, including connections with the murder of Lt. Col. Tuan Muthalif, a member of the Military Intelligence was shot dead near the railway crossing gate at Borella Leslie Ranagala Mawatha in the early hours of Saturday (20). Investigations have revealed that he was killed due to a business dispute. The deceased person named I.W.Sanjeeva (54) is a resident of Galborella in Kelaniya. He had been shot near his ancestral home.

Investigations have revealed that this person, who is engaged in the business of recruiting employees to clean commercial places by obtaining cleaning service contracts, comes to his house in Borella every day in the morning.

As usual, he came from Kelaniya early Saturday morning (20) with his daughter to Borella.His older sister is currently living in the ancestral home. While his daughter went to his sister’s house, this person had been standing on the road in front of the house. Investigations have revealed that a person who came there on a motorcycle shot him with a T-56 gun and the shooter had also shot him after he fell on the ground.

More than 20 T-56 empty ammunitions were found scattered on the road. Intelligence sources say that this person even edited a newspaper that had links to the LTTE during the 2002 peace accord.Lt. Col. Tuan Muthalif, who was leading military intelligence officer at that time, was killed on October 29, 2005 in Narahenpita. Police say that this person was also arrested as a suspect in this murder. It is said that this person had been acquitted of that charge later.

Police suspect the shooting may have been a result of a business dispute related to his current cleaning service business.
