Manampitiya bus accident: Minister saddened by loss of lives

Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardana yesterday said that he was saddened by the loss of lives and injuries to people during the bus accident in Manampitiya on Sunday.

The Minister addressing the media during the launch of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) mobile and web-based applications for long distance buses at the media ministry said that he informed the National Transport Commission to conduct an investigation and submit a report as soon as possible regarding the accident.

He further said that he had published an advertisement informing that all passenger buses operating islandwide should obtain licenses and that legal action will be taken against bus operators that do not have such permission.

National Transport Commission Chairman Shashi Welgama said that laws are currently being prepared to impose large fines for buses plying on roads without permission.
