Mango offered to deity fetches Rs. 95,000 at auction
A mango offered for God after a special pooja held at Thavasikulam Sri Vinayagar Kovil in Vavuniya was sold at an auction for Rs. 95,000 on Sunday (13).
After the Deva Pooja held on special days in this kovil, many things including the fruits put in the pooja watti are sold by auction and this is the first time that a mango has been sold at this price.
The fruits bought at the auction are not consumed by the buyers; they tie them in a white cloth and hang them in their houses hoping for God’s blessings on their homes and families. The mango was bought by a person who had come to Vavuniya from London for a holiday, living in a house near the Kovil.
