Many parties to participate in APC
Apart from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the National People’s Power (NPP), all other major political parties and independent groups have informed that they will attend the All-Party Conference tomorrow (26), convened by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to inform party leaders about the National Reconciliation Programme.
Invitations had been extended to leaders of all political parties and independent groups for the APC by the Presidential Secretariat.
It has been confirmed that nearly 40 political parties and independent groups including the TNA and others representing the North and the East in Parliament will participate in the All-Party conference.
The sources further emphasize that the parties and groups have informed the President’s Office that they will present their views and proposals regarding national reconciliation.
It has been announced that a high-level delegation of the SLPP, led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the main party representing the Parliament, will participate in the conference.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party led by former President Maithripala Sirisena, Dullas Alahapperuma of the Nidahas Janatha Sabhawa and Vasudeva Nanayakkara of the Democratic Left Front have also confirmed their participation.
This is expected to be an extension of the talks the President had with Members of Parliament representing the North and the East on July 18 and will mainly discuss the devolution of power to the North and East, the 13th Amendment and the North and East land issue.
