Market witnesses 1.5% index drop yesterday
Colombo bourse witnessed a sharp fall at the start of the trading yesterday due to the weak sentiments due to the on-going economic crisis in the country. Thus, The All-Share Price Index decreased by 116.6 points (-1.5%) to close at
7,772.1 whilst S& P SL20 Index also decreased by 60.5 points (-2.4%) to close at 2,485.2. Expolanka Holdings, Sampath Bank, LOLC Holdings, Hayleys and NDB Bank remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day.
Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 1,120.7 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,626.6 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 50,646.6k against the 12-month average daily volume of 223,200.6k. Banks, Diversified Financials and Transportation mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.
The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs.205.2 mn (-5.3%), Browns Investments Rs.151.9 mn (-2.2%), Lanka IOC Rs. 78.3 mn (-2.5%), Hatton National Bank Rs.77.5 mn (-1.0%) and LOLC Holdings Rs.61.4 mn (-3.2%). Foreigners recorded a net outflow of Rs. 5.8 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 155.4 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs. 161.2 mn.
Top foreign buying counters RFL LKR. 9.9 mn, CFLB LKR. 1.6 mn,ASCO LKR. 1.5 mn, BPPL LKR. 1.0 mn, LALU LKR. 0.7 mn and TKYO LKR. 0.5 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were MELS LKR. (5.1) mn, DIAL LKR. (2.7) mn, TILE LKR. (2.3) mn, RCL LKR. (2.1) mn, HNB LKR. (2.0) mn and HAYC LKR. (1.8) mn. Further, no off-board transactions were witnessed yesterday.
Additionally, SMB Leasing (Non-Voting), Aitken Spence Plantations, Capital Alliance Finance, Muller and Phipps and SMB Leasing (Voting) were the top price gainers yesterday whilst The Light House Hotel, Citizens Dev. Business Finance, Union Chemicals, Lanka Ceramics and Blue Diamonds were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, Muller and Phipps, Dialog Axiata, LOLC Finance and Blue Diamonds (Voting) were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
