Marking wrong finger creates furore at Vellikulama polling centre
The election officials are said to have marked the wrong finger of voters during the first two hours of voting at the polling centre established at Vellikulama College in Vavuniya yesterday.
The Election Commission (EC) had decided to mark the index finger on the left hand of voters at the 2024 Parliamentary Election, instead of the usual little finger on the left hand.
But at Vellikulama College in Vavuniya officers are said to have marked the little finger on the left hand of voters during the first two hours of voting.
Later a group of voters who went to cast their ballots has had an argument with the election officials because they had marked the little finger on the left hand.
Later, the officer in charge of the polling station had apologised to the voters and started marking the index finger of voters.
However, some voters have complained to election monitors PAFFREL and CAFFE regarding this incident.
