Matale and Colombo Gold teams boys’ hockey joint champs

Matale Schools Gold team and Colombo schools Gold teams emerged boys joint champions while Kandy Schools Blue team won girls championship at the Inter district combined schools under 20 Hockey tournament which played at Edward Park playgrounds Matale over the weekend.

At the boys final both Matale Schools and Colombo schools Gold teams had equal points to share championship while Galle Schools Gold team Colombo schools Red teams were placed second and third respectively.

Kandy Schools Blue team defeated Chilaw Schools team at the girls final while Matale schools Gold and Colombo schools

Kandy Schools Blue skipper Pabodha Divyanjali receiving gold champion award from former schools Hockey President Dampiya Wanasinghe. Schools Hockey Association President Shashikala Senadeera and Secretary Anuruddha Herath Bandara are also present.

Red teams were declared second and third places.

S.P Gunawardena of Matale Gold team was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament boys section while Nipuni Fernando of Chilaw was named Best Player of the girls tournament. K.Imesh Kaushalya of Colombo Red was named Best Goal-keeper of boys section while Dilmi Jayalath of Kandy Blue team won the Best Defender award.

According to the President of Sri Lanka schools Shashikala Senadeera, for the first time Polonnaruwa and Kurunegala teams took part in this event while former Schools Hockey President Dampiya Wanasinghe was the chief guest at the awards ceremony.
