Thet raditional cricket big match Battle of the Golds ‘between two Matale schools St Thomas’ College and Science College, was revived after a lapse of seven years according to Old Thomian Bandulla Mahinda and it was played at the Kandy Police grounds on Saturday and this time it was a limited overs cricket game. . The game was played under the distinguished patronage of Monty Ariyaratne who was one time Science College Captain

St Thomas’ college team was led by Matheesh Rasmika with Anuradha Ranasinghe as his deputy did their best to win the game. The Science College side was led by R.U.S.Rajapakse and N.G. .Premasiri as the vice captain gave of their best but the opponents were superior to them.

In this game St. Thomas College won the toss and elected to bowl first and bowled out Science College side for 56 runs in 19 overs, thanks to the bowling of K. Anusha who took 5 for 9. In reply St. Thoams Collge scored 57 for 1 in 8 overs. The best all rounder award was presented to Anupa Premasiri of Science College that was the Sihul Wijesekara memorial trophy donated by Lalith Karunadasa former President of Matale Old Thomians Association Colombo branch in memory of Sithul Wijesekara who captained St Thomas’ College first eleven cricket team in 2022 and 2023.(Sri Lanka National Youth Under 19 Development Squad Player)

CP Schools athletic meet

Central Province Schools Boys and Girls Athletics championship has been fixedf rom 5th to 8th at the Bogambara Stadium.

In this meet there will be over three thousand athletes in action in four age groups that will be under 14, 16, 18 and 20.

The participants will be from Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Matale Districts. From these meet athletes for the AllIsland Schools Atheistic championship will be chosen. The event is handled by Central Province Education Department.

Kingswood hockey champs

Kingswood College who are blessed with some top hockey players were lucky to win the championship in the under 20 Central Province Hockey Championship held at the famous Edward Park in Matale by beating St.Thomas’ College Matale on penalies the winners netted 4 and the losers 2. Full time result was a draw and the penalties were introduced to find the winner.
