Matara District Sports Complex to be a Gymnastics Training Centre
The Matara District Sports Complex was given to the Sri Lanka Gymnastic Association through an agreement to use it as a Asian Region Gymnastic Training Centre The MoU was signed between Sports Director General Amal Edirisooriya and Gymnastic Association Secretary Kapila Jeewantha at the Sports Ministry Auditorium yesterday.
The sport Development Department always makes their activities to promote the game while giving infrastructure facilities to players as well as respective sports bodies . The Ministry also gave authority to the Gymnastic Association to do management activities at Matara Kotawila Sport Complex through the agreement The Matara district Sport Complex is expected to be upgraded as an Asian Regional Gymnastic training centre with the support from Asian Regional Gymnastic Association .
Sri Lankan Gymnastics got into history books as Milka Gehani became Sri Lanka’s first Gymnast to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics and it was a remarkable achievement. Sri Lanka Gymnastic team won third place at the recently concluded Central Asian Gymnastic Championship while Nadila Nethwiru won the silver medal at junior singles event
Sport Director General Amal Edirisooriya gave his wishes to the Sri Lankan team during the occasion of the agreement exchange . The National Sports Council and High Performance Committee already recognised Gymnastic as a medal winning sport and getting their own training centre always big boost to Gymnastics in Sri Lanka
