Matheesha Pathirana the under 19 Trinity College paceman has joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a replacement for Adam Milne the New Zealand paceman.
The IPL media statement has confirmed that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Matheesha Pathirana as a replacement for Adam Milne for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Milne suffered a hamstring injury in CSK’s first match against Kolkata Knight Riders and has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
Milne was all set to ply his trade for the CSK, after having bought him for Indian Rupees 1.90 crore at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
His replacement Pathirana, is a promising medium pacer who was part of Sri Lanka’s U19 World Cup squads in 2020 and 2022. He will join CSK at the price of Indian Rupees 20 Lakhs.
Pathirana represented Sri Lanka U19s in the recently concluded ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies but hasn’t played at the senior national level.
The Trinity College under 19 team member who was also involved in the under 19 school cricket tournament was suddenly called up for this IPLas a replacement.
He is fondly refered to as “Podi Malinga” because of his slinging action as same as Lasith Malinga Pathirana is the first Sri Lankan to be signed by an IPL franchise, even before playing for the Sri Lanka national team.
Earlier Matheesha also got chance to play Abu Dhabi T – 10 franchise cricket tournament for Banga Tigers team which was coached by Thilina Kandamby.
He was a member of SLC invitational T – 20 cricket tournament playing for champion “Team Grays” which was captained by Dasun Shanaka in 2021.This year he also included for the Kandy team in the National Super League tournament but didn’t play a single game.
Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Chamika Karunaratne are already involved in the IPL tournament and Matheesha is the latest addition joining Maheesh Theekshana in the CSK team
