The Mercantile Services Basketball Association (MSBA) is in full swing with its 31st League Tournament, slated to run from September 11 to November 10, hosted at the Royal College Indoor Sports Complex.
The 46-team draw was recently unveiled at a press conference following the Annual General Meeting, which took place at the Jetwing Colombo Seven.
A stalwart in Sri Lanka’s basketball landscape, the MSBA has long served as a stepping stone for emerging players looking to make their mark in the corporate world. The annual tournament stands as a testament to this commitment. Over the years, the association has cultivated numerous basketball talents who not only excelled in the business sphere but also represented the nation on international platforms.
In the previous edition, Fairfirst Insurance emerged as champions in the Men’s ‘A’ Division, while Hatton National Bank clinched the Women’s ‘A’ Division title. This year’s tournament, spanning two months, features six divisions for men and three for women.
Men’s Divisions:
A Division: Notable participants include Akbar Brothers (Pvt) Ltd, Commercial Credit & Finance PLC, and Fairfirst Insurance Ltd.
B Division: Featuring teams like Dialog Axiata PLC, Hatton National Bank PLC, John Keells Holdings, MAS Holdings ‘A’, Seylan Bank PLC, and Union Bank of Colombo PLC.
C Division: Comprising CDB Finance PLC, GAJA TV, HSBC Sri Lanka, NDB Bank PLC, Sri Lanka Airlines, and Standard Chartered Bank.
D Division: Teams such as Allianz Insurance Lanka Ltd, Crepe Runner (Pvt) Ltd, David Peiris Group, DFCC Bank PLC, and Nations Trust Bank will compete.
E Division: Teams include Abans PLC, Aitken Spence PLC, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, IFS R&D International (Pvt) Ltd, LOLC Group, MAS Holdings ‘B’, Muve Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, and WSO2 Sri Lanka.
F Division: Featuring Amana Bank PLC, Butani Capital, Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC, Creative Software, Daraz Sri Lanka, DIMO PLC, Hayleys PLC, London Stock Exchange Group, and Sysco LABS Technologies (Pvt) Ltd.
Women’s Divisions:
A Division: Consisting of Commercial Credit & Finance PLC, Hatton National Bank, and Seylan Bank PLC.
B Division: Comprising David Peiris Group, Nations Trust Bank PLC, and Standard Chartered Bank.
C Division: Teams include IFS R&D International (Pvt) Ltd, WSO2 Sri Lanka, and Starting Five Labs.
