Met Dept.’s Amber Advisory for today: Strong winds, rough seas and occasional rain
The Department of Metrology (DoM) issued a color Amber Advisory for strong winds and rough seas, and forecast the following.
Seas off the coast extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil, will be very rough at times with very strong gusty winds up to 60-65 km/h today (15), on till 01.00pm .
Seas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai via Mullaitivu and Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to 50-55 km/h.
Swell waves, about 2-2.5 m high may increase in the seas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
On the Western slopes of the Central hills, in the Northern, North-Central and North-Western Provinces, and in the Districts of Trincomalee and Hambantota, there may be occasional gusts of 5 km/h, while strong winds of 40-50 km/h are possible.
There may be occasional rain or thundershowers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces, and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara Districts.
