Mihintale rail track ready before Poson Poya – Minister

Cabinet Spokesman and Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said that the reconstruction of railway line up to Mihintale will be completed before Poson Poya. The Minister mentioned this at the Cabinet Media conference held yesterday (12) at the Government Information Department.

Accordingly, the Minister said that a special train will be run from Anuradhapura to Mihintale during Poson Poya period for pilgrims to travel without charging tolls.

He said that not only the Anuradhapura Poson festival but also the Poson festivals across the country will be fully supported by the government and ministries and departments. Minister Gunawardhana also said that 400 additional buses will be used for the Poson festival.

The Minister further said that the government sponsorships and ministries and departments provide full support for Poson festivals across the country. According to this, state sponsorship is provided not only for Anuradhapura Poson Festival but also for Poson Festivals all over the country. The Transport Ministry is doing the same.

The Railway Department and the Transport Board have participated in the discussions on the organisation of Poson festival held in Anuradhapura last week and have reached an agreement to run 400 additional buses for the Poson festival. It has reached the final stage.

Therefore, we have instructed the Railway Department to make arrangements to run a special train for the devotees coming from Anuradhapura to Mihinthalaya by buses and other means before the Poson Festival without charging.The SLTB has increased the number of buses. Also, state media organisations including National Television have given sponsorships to Posen Zones. Independent Television Network for Sithulpawwa, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and radio stations for Atamasthana in Anuradhapura.
