Millions allocated for farmers

0 2

The government has decided to provide a financial subsidy of 15,000 rupees per hectare to all the farmers to purchase fertilizers for paddy cultivation in this maha season.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance has given the first billion rupees of the amount to be accounted for by farmers to the Ministry of Agriculture and the crediting of the money to the accounts of the district offices was done today (06) at the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industry.

Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera attended this event, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Mr. Janaka Dharmakeerthi, Commissioner General of Agriculture Mr. H. M. A. L. Abeyratne and others participated.

This year, 08 lakh hectares of paddy are to be cultivated and steps have been taken to provide this financial subsidy to all the farmers who cultivate paddy. The government is expected to spend 12 billion rupees for that. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated that an amount of 1000 million rupees has been given as the first installment and taking into consideration the state of the government’s money as well as taking into account the manner in which the paddy cultivation activities will be started, steps will be taken to account for the relevant financial allocations.

It should not be assumed that this money will be available from farmers’ accounts from tomorrow. Because in the case of paddy cultivation, this money belongs to the person doing the cultivation. Some paddy fields are not cultivated by the owner. Therefore, we are paying attention to that as well. We are taking steps to give the relevant money to the relevant person who grows it. For that, the registers should be re-examined. Those who cultivate paddy fields have a different situation in every cropping season.

Also, the financial situation of the government should be taken into consideration. We are distributing the first billion rupees out of 12 billion rupees today. We account for the money according to the way the Ministry of Finance provides the remaining money. But we provide these concessional financial provisions to every farmer who cultivates paddy.

Therefore, I request the journalists not to meet the farmers from tomorrow and ask them if they have received the money. This is not a simple matter. It is a complex process. Sometimes there are problems with the account numbers given to us. Their correctness should also be checked.

If not, money can be credited to wrong accounts as money is given this time. Therefore, the Minister also mentioned that I request the support of all parties to make these tasks successful
