Minister Alles orders IGP to probe resignation of Mullaitivu Judge
Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to launch a comprehensive investigation into the resignation of Mullaitivu District Judge and Magistrate T. Saravanaraja.
The Minister instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to further investigate the reasons that led to the resignation of the Judge, the Minister’s media unit said.
Earlier, President Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered a comprehensive investigation into the abrupt resignation of Mullaitivu District Judge Saravanaraja. The judge had been overseeing a critical case involving Mullaitivu Kurundi Viharaya and several other sensitive cases. The judge tendered his resignation, citing death threats as the reason.
However, it is learnt that the Judge had not informed the Police or the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) about such threats earlier. It has been revealed that District Judge Saravanaraja had also not lodged any formal complaint about the alleged death threats before resigning.
Saravanaraja, who went abroad on September 24, submitted his resignation letter to the JSC on September 23.
