Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday (08) instructed Ministry Secretary Chandra Herath to initiate a thorough investigation regarding the incident of severing the tusks of the Anuradhapura Maheshakya Tusker when the animal was on the verge of death.
Accordingly, the Director General of Wildlife has already made a complaint to the Police in this regard and investigations are being conducted to arrest the suspect involved in cutting off the tusks of the elephant.
The Wildlife Director General had informed the Minister that the Department will conduct an investigation into whether the Wildlife Officers did not act until the elephant died and whether there was any negligence on their part.
