Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga emphasized that Minuwangoda city should be developed to suit the modern world using advanced technology.
The Minister said this in a discussion held yesterday regarding the development of Minuwangoda town at the Urban Development Authority in Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla.
The Minuwangoda City Development Plan will be prepared by Urban Development Authority engineers and architects. The Minister also said that development plans should be prepared as they will not harm the natural environment including the paddy lands in the city.
Since the area is close to the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport, plans are afoot to build a new road from Ambagahawatta area near the Minuwangoda city to the airport in order to bypass Minuwangoda and reach the airport fast. The UDA expects to acquire nine acres located in Minuwangoda city for the development of the city.
Accordingly, new private hospitals, parking lots, new shopping malls, playgrounds and amusement parks will be set up in the area.
