Money lender shot in Ahungalle

Police investigation teams suspect the shooting of a person who was travelling in a three-wheeler from Balapitiya towards Kosgoda near the Hotel in Ahungalle, yesterday (11) morning was due to a money dispute.

A 38-year-old money lender living in Nape, Kosgoda is the victim of the shooting. Investigation teams have also received information about a threat to this person over the phone three days ago.

Southern Province SDIG Sajeewa Medawatta stated that the person who threatened the money lender has been identified. The shooting took place at around 7.30 in the morning. The injured person was admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital with gunshot injuries and he was transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

Police said that the victim was returning after visiting his wife and a newborn baby at the hospital. During the search operation conducted by the Police after this shooting, the car in which the shooters came was found abandoned in the Danketiya area on the Benthota – Elpitiya road in the Bentota Police division.

Police identified the number plates of this car as fake while the car registered under the number belonged to a person from the Kandy area.
