Moneylender in trouble over sexual demands
A moneylender who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department and presented to court on charges of sending an obscene video to a woman who did not pay interest on time via the internet inviting her for sexual activity with him was ordered to be remanded till August 21 by Colombo Additional Magistrate T.N.L.Ilangasinghe yesterday (15).
A suspect named Tharaka Madhushan Herath, a resident of Kelaniya, was remanded for this offence. The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the suspect has committed a cyber crime by sending sexually obscene scenes to the woman and inviting her to stay with him in that manner if she does not pay interest. The Criminal Investigation Department stated before the court that the SIM card of the place where the suspect previously worked was used for this crime and an online investigation was conducted and the suspect was arrested.
Attorney Apsara Botheju, who appeared before court on behalf of the suspect, said the suspect is ready to plead guilty before court and said that such suspects, who have not been imprisoned before, may turn into other criminals after being imprisoned, so he should be released on bail.
After considering the relevant matters, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be remanded till August 21.
