Moonshine distillery in Katunayake boarding raided

The Police Central Anti-Corruption Task Force located in Walana, Panadura yesterday (13) raided an illegal liquor distillery which had been run very secretly for some time in a building where rooms were rented to those working in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone.

This illegal distillery located in the Katunayake Caram Estate had eight barrels hidden on the floor of one boarding room and carrying the distilled alcohol to another room through pipes. In another room, materials used to brew alcohol were stored.

When the officials of Walana Central Anti-Corruption Task Force stormed the place, two persons were distilling moonshine. Both of them were arrested and 150,000 liters of illegal liquor Kasippu and more than two million liters of Goda used to distill alcohol were found.

Investigations have revealed that 75,000 liters of Kasippu are brewed per day by this place.

The Police say that there is also a two-storey boarding house on the same land where the Kasippu factory was run, in which young people working in the region stay. The Police say that the land where the boarding house is located belongs to a well-known Kasippu dealer in the area.

It has also been revealed that Saturday (12) was his birthday, so he had a big party for it. The Central Anti-Corruption Task Force states that he stays at the Kasippu Brewery if not the party.

According to information received by the intelligence wing of the Central Anti-Corruption Task Force, this place was raided after surveillance by the Police Sergeants Sampath (34950) and Indika (75056). It has been observed by the intelligence officers of the Central Anti-Corruption Squad that this place is a boarding house with 10 rooms and that there are people working in the region in these rooms.

After raiding this place, the underground tanks were destroyed and the suspects were handed over to Katunayake Police Station along with Goda and Kasippu who were caught.

Director ASP Udaya Kumara of Central Anti-Corruption Task Force under the leadership of Chief Inspector Indika Weerasinghe initiated the raid.
