Moratuwa University paddlers excelled at the recently concluded Sri Lanka University Games ( SLUG) when they bagged both men sand women’s team championships and their performance were very high during this event which was held in Batticaloa Eastern University Indoor Stadium .
Moratuwa University men’s team led by Maleesha Amarasooriya had services of two National players Hiruna Warusawithana and Nimesh Ranchagoda and both of them used their experience to give a better display in this tournament.
Hashan Weerakoon the coach of Moratuwa University gave fine service to both teams and we had good preparation at our Indoor Stadium said men’s team skipper Maleesha Amarasooriya who is a former Richmond College Galle paddler.

Moratuwa TT has a proud history when we won both men and women championship in 2018 and 2019 .In addition in 2017 our women’s team clinched the women’s championship while in 2022 our men’s team won men’s championship and this time we were able to win champion trophy in both men’s and women’s section to show our prowess said skipper Maleesha Amarasooriya. In fact this is the fourth consecutive time we won men’s championship title while back to back dual champions in 2019 and 2023 is a great achievement which shows our dedication and commitment to this sport said skipper Maleesha Amarasooriya.
Meanwhile National player Chamathsara Fernando led the champion women’s team while Ridmi Ayeshika is the deputy skipper of the team.
Lukshman Wijesuriya the Sports Director of Moratuwa University always gives encouragement to the teams while Academy staff give their blessings to go forward. Moratuwa University Students always do well in both Academic and Sports activities without mixing up their priorities and that is very important said Lukshman Wijesuriya the Sports Director who is also the President of Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.
