More rain ahead? Met Department issues special weather alert for Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has warned that a low-pressure area may form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal by Oct. 13, potentially bringing increased rainfall across Sri Lanka over the next few days.
In a special yellow weather bulletin issued at 11 a.m. on Oct. 12, the department said rainfall is expected to increase across the island and in both deep and shallow sea areas surrounding the country due to the developing weather system.
According to the department, the probability of the system developing into a depression remains nil during the first 144 hours, while a low probability has been indicated for the period between 144 and 168 hours.
The department urged the general public, particularly naval and fishing communities, to remain attentive to future weather forecasts and official bulletins.
The Meteorology Department said it would continue monitoring the developing weather conditions and issue further updates as necessary. (Newswire)
