More than 18,000 athletes for Provincial Meet

More than 18,000 athletes representing more than 650 schools will participate in more than 70 events at the fifth Samaposa Provincial School Sport meet which will commence from August 15.

This time this Samaposa Provincial School sport meet will be held in five provinces and Southern Province is the latest addition to this event which is sponsored by CBL Food cluster the makers of Samaposa joining hands with the Education Ministry.

Sachi Fernando the General Manager of Marketing CBL Food cluster said through Samaposa we endeavour to create a young generation with not only nutrition but also self-confidence and holistic development and this is the main target of this type of Provincial School Sports Meet.

Therefore as a company under the theme of “ Dinana Daruwo” we are incredibly happy to organize such sports events and contribute to laying the foundation for taking school-level athletes to the international level added General Manager Marketing CBL Food cluster Sachi Fernando who is the lady behind the success of this event. This is a very hard period but Samaposa tried to groom school athletes to come up with their performance and they are the future. We know CBL Foods Company the makers of Reitzbury already sponsored the prestigious Sir John Tarbet senior and junior athletics championship for All Island school athletes.

The Samaposa Provincial School Sports Meet will be conducted at provincial level North Western Province meet will be held from August 15 to 18 at Albert F.Peris Stadium at Wennappuwa while from September 1 to 4 Uva Province meet will be held at Vincent Dias Stadium, Badulla. North Central Province meet scheduled to be held from September 5 to 8 at Public grounds Anuradhapura and on the same dates Southern Province meet will be held at D.A Rajapaksa School grounds Beliatta. The Eastern Province meet will be held from September 19 to 23 at Leelaratne Ground Kantale.

Former Sports Director of Education Ministry Sunil Jayaweera who was the man behind in inaugurating this Samaposa Provincial School Sports Meet in 2015 was the Guest of honour at the press conference at Taj Samudra Hotel on Thursday.

The former talented organiser of the Schools Athletic meets Sunil Jayaweera said those days present President Ranil Wickremesinghe wanted to promote school athletics and gave full responsibility for him and this Samaposa Provincial School Sports Meet also one of that kind of meet. I am very happy this meet started with one province and today it has spread to five provinces and happy to see generous sponsorship from Samaposa added former Education Sports Director
