More than 8,000 arrested in special ops ‘Yukthiya’

Over 8,000 suspects have been arrested during the countrywide special operation ‘Yukthiya’ carried out by the Police and the Special Task Force (STF) since December 17.

The special operations are being carried out round the clock to curb the drug menace and organized crime in the country, using the specialized crime busting divisions of the Sri Lanka Police and STF.

A total of 2,008 suspects were arrested in the 24 hours ending at 06.00 am yesterday (21). Police also seized 2.4 kilos of heroin, 1.2 kilos of ice, 12 kilos of cannabis, and 17,054 narcotic pills during the countrywide raids.

The Public Security Ministry also revealed that illegal assets worth Rs. 92 million belonging to drug dealers ‘Asanka’, ‘Sriyani’, and ‘Ladiya’ were seized. According to the Public Security Ministry, the illegal assets seized include three buses, two cars, a house, and four plots of land. These illegal assets were seized by the Illegal Assets and Properties Investigation Division of the Sri Lanka Police.
