Commenting on recent media reports which claimed that the COVID treatment capacity of the Ragama Teaching Hospital has exceeded its capacity, the Minister said “all COVID-19 positive patients are first admitted to a ward and then the doctors decide whether the patient should be directed to the Intensive Care Unit, Intermediate Treatment Centre, General COVID Treatment wards or for self-quarantine. This admission ward is always full and the media reported about it”.

“Today, we discussed with the Director of the hospital regarding the allocation of a few more wards at the Ragama Hospital for the treatment of COVID patients,” Minister Wanniarachchi said.

Health Secretary Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena and Director of Ragama Hospital S.P.A. Liyanage Ranaweera were also present at the occasion.
