Most Ven. Dr. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thera dedicated entire life to nation – Dinesh
Aggamahapandita Dr Most Venerable Welamitiyawe Kusaladamma Thera had been the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Chief Judicial Prelate for the two Regions of Colombo and Chilaw until his Passing Away. The Nayake Thera passed away on October 27 at the age of 85. Besides Late Most Venerable Kusaladamma Nayake Thera, who functioned as the Head of the Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena performing a great service for the propagation of Buddhism in the country.
Issuing a condolence message, the Minister stated that the vacuum created with the Passing Away of the Nayaka Thera cannot be fulfilled and therefore the entire nation deeply regrets. The Thera gained a vast knowledge and huge experience in Buddhism while being a student and a follower of Late Heads of the Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena including Ven. Kiriwattuduwe Pagnasara Thera and Ven, Yakkaduwe Pagnarama Thera. The unparalleled knlwledge the Thera gained from Dhamma education from childhood was utilized for the nation throughout the lifetime.
The Minister humbly highly evaluated the dedication and the untiring efforts of the Nayake Thera to illuminate the country’s Buddhist Education, Pali and Sanskrit language education and Bikku education as well.
Minister Gunawardena highlighted that the Nayake Thera marked a significant place in national movements while in the frontline in protecting the Motherland when certain evil forces were trying to destroy the backbone of the nation.
Meanwhile, on the directive of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs will make arrangements to hold the cremation of the late Thera with full State Honours.
