Mother, daughter killed in Southern E-way collision

A 30-year-old daughter and her 56-year-old mother who were returning home after consulting a heart specialist have been killed in a road accident reported close to the Kurundugahahetekma interchange on the Southern Expressway on Wednesday night.

Police said a van travelling from Colombo to Mattala had collided with a lorry travelling in front in the same direction.

The 30-year-old woman had been working as an assistant manager at a state bank. They are residents of Ambalanthota. Several other persons, including the driver of the van who had sustained injuries in the accident, had been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.

The mother and daughter were returning home after coming to Colombo to meet a doctor for consultations as the mother had undergone a heart surgery recently. The Southern Expressway Police is conducting investigations into the accident.
