Mother, son duo arrested with 38 kg heroin from Embilipitiya

A mother and her son along with over 38 kilograms of heroin in their possession was arrested in Embilipitiya on Monday evening.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said Embilipitiya police officers had recovered this heroin stocked in 36 packs. The arrested duo are 46 and 22.

They have been conducting the heroin smuggling racket from their house in the guise of a garments and bag manufacturing unit, police said.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the mastermind of this case is living in a foreign country. Another cousin sister of the arrested woman will also be arrested by police over this heroin smuggling case.

A digital scale has also been taken into custody by the police.

Police produced the suspects before the Court and a Detention Order was obtained against them yesterday. Investigations into the incident are conducted by the police under the direct supervision of the Embilipitiya Division SSP.
