The Committee appointed to investigate the alleged clash between State Minister Diana Gamage and Members of Parliament Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Rohana Bandara within the Parliamentary complex has decided to summon all those involved in the incident and those who witnessed the incident before it on November 6.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena appointed a Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa to investigate this incident on the same day and the Committee met yesterday for the first time at the Parliament complex.
The committee is scheduled to meet again on November 6 at 10.00 am and it has been decided to call those involved and eyewitnesses to the incident. The other members of this Committee headed by Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakse are former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Health and Industry Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, MP Imtiaz Bakeer Marker and MP Gayantha Karunathilaka. This Committee has watched the CCTV camera footage related to this incident yesterday.
It was decided yesterday to include two women Parliamentarians representing the ruling party and the Opposition for this Committee and both Parties have been informed to nominate two women MPs. Accordingly, the two women MPs will participate in the next Committee meeting. Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa said the report of the investigation committee will be submitted to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena after concluding the investigations.
He further stated that the investigation committee has paid close attention to this incident and it has unanimously decided that measures should be taken to prevent such incidents from happening in the future as such incidents damage the honour of Parliament.
