MP’s killing case: HC summons case on June 19

The three-member Bench of the High Court ordered to summon the case filed by the Attorney General against the 42 defendants under 14 charges including the beating   and killing of former Member of Parliament Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his police security officer before the Gampaha High Court on June 19.

High Court Judge Sahan Mapa Bandara chairs the panel of judges comprising Judges Rashmi Singappuli and Ruwan Pathirana. Summons were issued to five defendants on bail to appear before the Gampaha High Court on June 19. The Superintendent of Prisons was ordered to produce 33 remanded defendants before the court. It was stated in the court that two defendants have died and two other defendants named in the case by the police have not been arrested.

Former Member of Parliament Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security police officer were beaten to death in Nittambuwa town on May 9, 2022.

The Attorney General has filed 14 charges against the 42 defendants before the Gampaha High Court, including that they attacked the jeep in which Amarakeerthi was travelling and caused a loss of 45 million rupees.
