Mystery into teenage student’s death inside car in Piliyandala

Piliyandala police said that a 17-year-old student who had been stuck inside a car parked opposite his house for more than three hours died after being hospitalised. Madamperuma Arachchige

Sandun Ninsara, a resident of Jaya Mawatha, Mampe, Piliyandala, a Grade 12 student of Mount Lavinia Science College was the victim of this mystery death. It was revealed during police investigations that on November 30 afternoon, the deceased student’s mother together with his twin brother had gone to the Jayawardhanapura Hospital for some requirement, while the elder sister and father had gone to work. Police said only the deceased student had been at home.

In the afternoon, a school friend living in a house close by had come over and told the deceased student to have ready, short notes that he would come later to study.

However, since a relative of the friend had come visiting he had not been able to keep his promise and arrived at about 11 am and told the deceased that he would come at 3.00 pm. When this friend had reached the deceased’s house around 2.45 pm the gate of the house had been closed but the front door had been open and according to the police it was discovered during investigations that when the friend had gone into the house and looked inside the room of the deceased, the television set and the fan had been working.

As the friend could not find the deceased even though he searched the entire house he had told the neighbours and carried out another search. Subsequent to calling the father of the deceased, he too had arrived and joined in the search.Police said that it was then that they had noticed the deceased unconscious inside the car, leaning against the left-hand side front door. They also said that the deceased student’s legs had been resting on the driver’s seat. Police said all the locks of the car had closed automatically by then.Taking action immediately the father had taken an iron bar and tried to break open the car windows but as he failed to do so, he had suddenly remembered that the key of the car could be used. The deceased student was found frothing at the mouth and it was apparent that he had been sweating profusely and his body temperature had been high, the police said.

The student had been taken to the Piliyandala hospital for initial treatment and admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital. Police said that the student had passed away at 1.00pm yesterday.

Mount Lavinia Division Crimes Investigation officers will carry out further investigations.Finger print officers too had engaged in investigations.Police said that arrangements will be made to send the motor vehicle to the Government Analyst.A post-mortem examination was to be be carried out at the Kalubowila hospital yesterday.

A team of police officers including Officer-In-Charge of the Crimes Division IP Dinesh Hettiarachchi are engaged in investigations under the instructions of Officer-In-Charge of the Piliyandala Police, Chief Inspector of Police Sanath Ranjith.
