Civil activist Nagananda Kodithuwakku yesterday undertook before the Court of Appeal to deliver the notices to seven respondents out of 10 in the Writ petition filed by him. He is seeking an order to take legal action under criminal law against the gas companies and those responsible for importing and distributing unsafe domestic gas cylinders.

When the petition was taken up before the bench comprising Court of Appeal Justices Ruwan Fernando and Sampath Abeykoon, Senior Additional Solicitor General Farzana Jameel appearing on behalf of the Attorney General informed the court that the file regarding the petition had been received by the Attorney General’s Department without the case number.

She stated that the other respondents could not be consulted as they had not been given notice and that sufficient time was needed to assist the court in making proper representations on the grounds on which the petition was based.

Attorney Suren de Silva, appearing for Laugfs Holdings, said his company had also not received notice.The petitioner stated that this incident was taking place due to the negligence of the respondents and that the intervention of the court was required for this. Therefore, the petitioner requested that this petition be considered expeditiously.Accordingly, he undertook to deliver the notices to the seven respondents in the petition.
