The President of the Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF) Dr. Rukshan Bellana yesterday said the manner in which the Kalutara South Police have acted in connection with the incident at the Nagoda General Hospital, Kalutara is completely correct. Kalutara South Police recently summoned a teacher in relation to a complaint made by a doctor of the Nagoda Hospital that she had made insulting comments on social media regarding a medical report provided by the Nagoda Hospital.
Commenting on social media comments posted by a teacher that the Nagoda Hospital had handed over a blank CD that was supposed to contain the information about her father’s angiogram which was done at the hospital, Dr.Belleana said creating something hateful among the people by propagating FB that something has happened to them is not acceptable. No one can share what they want in public, If you want to do that, you can do it privately. If something happens unintentionally or accidentally, no one can share it in public and provoke the public.
The Cardiology Unit attached to the Nagoda General Hospital, Kalutara has a good reputation for performing angiogram tests for many years in history and it has so far performed nearly 6,000 angiogram tests. The medical staff including doctors and nurses are well-trained in offering both medical services and caring for patients.
Therefore, no one should be allowed to tarnish the image of the hospital as well as the reputation and professionalism of the medical staff. If there is any mistake proven by the medical staff, suitable action should be taken against them. But posting comments on social media and provoking people can not be acceptable. Therefore, suitable action should be taken against her and the Police should be allowed to act independently.
Meanwhile, the teacher has removed her comments from social media following notification of the Police.
