National Excellence Awards for 25 industrial sectors

0 1

The Ministry of Industry and the Industrial Development Board (IDB) will jointly hold a State-sponsored National Excellence Awards (NEA) ceremony for the first time in Sri Lanka aiming to take the products of our industrialists to the international market through the brands.

Although there have been several awards ceremonies for brands in Sri Lanka, no brand awards ceremony has been held for the industry sector. Therefore it was an obstacle to take brands related to Sri Lankan manufacturing industries to the international market.

Chairman of IDB Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma said that IDB has already organized all the activities to hold a special brand award ceremony in the manufacturing sector.

“This brand excellence award ceremony covers about 25 industrial sectors and 125 sub-sectors, and measures have already been taken to inform small, medium and large-scale industrialists for this purpose. This award ceremony at the national level will cover all 25 districts, Alahapperuma said.

“Since this brand standard contest in small, medium and large scale, separate applications have to be submitted. For that purpose, from the filling of the application forms, all necessary instructions for forwarding them in the proper manner can be obtained from the Deputy and Assistant Directors in our district offices,” he further said.

It is expected that 120 awards will be given after selecting the applications related to the brands of the industrialists referred by a panel of experts and selecting them nationwide at the district level and at the provincial level, Director of Entrepreneurship Development Division of IDB Renuka Jayalath said.

Alahapperuma further added that the industry is based on brands. The whole world knows about our country because of our Ceylon Tea brand. Also, the industrialists of our country are popular among the consumers in the country because of their product brands. Also, their products have received good sales. Therefore, the brands of the products they produce are very important for the existence of the industrialist.

Through this, it is expected a renaissance in the field of industrial entrepreneurship as well as economic development of the country. Moves are under way to hold the brand award ceremony annually from this year. By giving value to the brand and maintaining local manufacturing industry sustainably, it is expected to double the contribution of the industry to the country’s economy, he added.

The necessary information and application for this National Excellence Brand Award Ceremony, which is expected to be held at the end of May 2024, can be obtained from the Deputy Directors of the IDB located in Katubedda, Moratuwa and the Deputy Directors of the IDB located in all 25 districts.
