Navy nab two suspects with 1,162kg of dried turmeric

Naval troops arrested two suspects along with 1,162kg of dried turmeric during a special operation in Maha Oya, Negombo on September 16 morning. Two dinghies were also seized.

The Naval personnel attached to the Naval Ship (SLNS) Kelani in the Western Naval Command along with a Special Boat Squadron (SBS) in Maha Oya, Negombo had spotted two dinghies heading ashore. Upon inspection, they found 37 sacks of dried turmeric (1162.950 kg) on the two dinghies.

The suspects are residents of Negombo. They, together with the stock of dried turmeric and the dinghies, were to be handed over to the Customs Preventive Office-Katunayake.
