The Sri Lanka Navy rescued a 17-year-old youth who was found stranded on a remote sandbank off Thalaimannar during a routine patrol on Friday (11).
Naval personnel attached to SLNS Thammanna under the North Central Naval Command detected the youth during maritime surveillance operations and provided him with drinking water, food and temporary shelter.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the youth had travelled from southern India, the Navy said.
He was subsequently handed over to the Thalaimannar Police for further action.
The rescue was carried out as part of the Navy’s routine maritime surveillance and patrol operations. (Newswire)
