Navy SC women clinch invitational cricket title
Navy SC led by Hansima Karunaratne recorded a thrilling eight runs win over Air Force SC in their women’s Invitational club tournament final to take the champion trophy at the Thurstan grounds yesterday.
Navy SC scored 121 for 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Umesha Thimishani top scored with 30 in 28 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes while skipper Hansima 25 in 26 balls and Maduri Samuddhika 23 not out in 14 balls with a four and a six made useful knocks for Navy team. Richi Samarasinghe was the most successful Air Force bowler taking 3 for 19 while Harshani Wijesooriya took 2 for 19.
Air Force SC chasing a target of 122 managed to get 113 for 7 wickets in their 20 overs. The experienced Dilani Manodara scored 40 in 34 balls while Chamari Polgampola hit 19 but that was not enough to reach the winning target.
Maduri Samuddhika and Sathya Sandeepani took two wickets each for winning Navy team.
Malka Mendis of Sri Lanka Army was named Best Batter of the tournament while Navy SC skipper Hansima Karunaratne was named Best Bowler.
Maduri Samuddhika of Sri Lanka Navy who scored a brisk knock of 23 and took 2 for 21 was adjudged Player of the Final while Navy SC Sathya Sandeepani was named Player of the Tournament.
Chinthaka Edirimanne SLC Head of National Cricket Operations and Manuja Kariyapperuma SLC Consaltant Women’s cricket development and Operations were the chief guests at the presentation ceremony.
